Carly Ziniuk, teacher and webinar host
I’m a classroom math teacher and author of the “In the Middle” column that appears in the Ontario Mathematics Gazette, a quarterly periodical from the Ontario Association for Mathematics Education (OAME). I was honoured to receive a Descartes Medal from the University of Waterloo in 2016 and the OAME Award for Exceptional and Creative Teaching in 2024. I specialize in financial literacy and integrated lesson design. As a member of the inaugural NASA Space Apps Collective, I integrated astronomy into kindergarten to grade 12 math classrooms. NASA showcased my methods on its “Data in Action” series on the NASA Space Apps Collective YouTube channel, and Forbes magazine included me in an article about how teachers linked math lessons to the total solar eclipse. I hold multiple certifications in science communication from RCIScience, Let’s Talk Science and Seneca Polytechnic and have created content for TVO ILC and the National Gallery of Canada.
Bank of Canada Museum
We’re a museum in Ottawa, Ontario about the Canadian economy and the role the Bank of Canada plays in it. We create resources on economics, history, financial literacy and more for students from kindergarten to Grade 12. Our mission is to creatively bring the work of the Bank to Canadians by demystifying its key functions. We also interpret Canada’s monetary heritage and provide access to Canada’s National Currency Collection.
Canada Revenue Agency
We administer tax, benefit payments and related programs for the Government of Canada and most provinces and territories. We want individuals to understand why they should file their taxes (you might be eligible for benefit and credit payments!) and how to file their taxes (there are many supports available!). We’ve also got Learn about your taxes, a self-paced online learning tool complete with lesson plans, quizzes and videos that can help educators teach taxes.
Financial Consumer Agency of Canada
We work at the intersection where consumers meet financial institutions and other players in the financial ecosystem. Our mandate is to protect financial consumers and to empower them to make informed financial decisions. Working with our partners and in support of the National Financial Literacy Strategy, we strengthen Canadian’s financial literacy and provide tools and resources to help them make informed financial decisions. Higher financial literacy is associated with a higher likelihood to plan, save and avoid financial mistakes, leading to confidence in navigating the financial marketplace. Financial Consumer Agency of Canada offers free, unbiased resources and tools to help all Canadians build the knowledge, skills, confidence and behaviours to make informed financial decisions.
TVO Learn
We’re Ontario’s public educational media organization. We create trusted learning content and digital resources that support students, educators and families across the province.
Through TVO Learn, our free online learning platform, we offer curriculum‑aligned activities, collections and tools for students from kindergarten to Grade 12. Our mission is to make learning accessible, engaging and relevant by connecting high‑quality media with Ontario curriculum expectations. Working closely with Ontario educators, we design resources that support classroom learning and independent exploration, while advancing lifelong learning and helping learners build the skills they need to thrive.
