Accessibility and special needs

At the Bank of Canada Museum, we strive to provide each visitor with a positive experience and are committed to accessibility for all.

We are currently in the process of making the Museum more accessible by removing barriers and integrating accessibility features.

Getting to the Museum

The entrance to the Museum is a glass pyramid structure, located at 30 Bank Street, at the corner of Bank and Wellington streets.

Accessible parking

  • There is no public parking available on site.
  • Passenger drop-off and pickup is permitted for 10 minutes on Wellington Street between Bank and Kent streets.
  • Public parking is available at several city-operated parking lots near the Museum.

Entrance and navigation

To locate our accessible entrance:

  1. Look for the glass pyramid structure.
    Our accessible entrance is to the right of the revolving doors.
  2. Take the elevator or flight of stairs down one level to the reception desk, where a staff member will greet you.
    The Museum is all on the same level as the reception desk.

Service animals

Service animals are allowed.

Restrooms

Our restrooms have wheelchair accessible stalls.

Seating

Seating is available throughout the Museum.

Wheelchairs and mobility

  • All public areas of the Museum are fully accessible for visitors using mobility devices or strollers.
  • A manual wheelchair is available at the information desk on a first-come, first-served basis.

Captions

Videos in the Museum have open captioning available in English and French.

Assistive listening devices

Fixed induction loop hearing systems at the reception desk and in the programming space transmit sound directly to visitors with T-coil compatible hearing aids.

Visual access

Magnifying glasses are available to borrow at the reception desk.

Sensory information

  • Some of the exhibits have background music that can be surprising or distracting.
  • Noise-cancelling headphones can be borrowed from the reception desk.
  • Except for the main entrance and the temporary exhibition gallery, the lighting in the Museum is low.
  • There are a few touchable features in the exhibition. Ask a staff member if you need assistance locating them.

Diaper changing and nursing

  • Diaper changing facilities can be found in both the men’s and women’s washrooms across from the reception desk.
  • There is no private nursing room on site; however, mothers are welcome to nurse their babies any where in the Museum.

Food and drink

Food and drink are not permitted in the Museum. Special requests may be accommodated in the Museum’s programming space if arrangements are made in advance.

  • The Museum offers guided tours, hands-on workshops and school programs.

  • We can organize guided tours for people with accessibility needs.
