Renovating, rebuilding—reinventing

On Canada Day, 2017, a new Museum opened, conceived and built as part of the greater renovation of the Bank of Canada’s Ottawa head office complex. Four years after the closing of the original Currency Museum, the Bank of Canada Museum is now open for business. Housed beneath the plaza at the corner of Bank and Wellington streets in downtown Ottawa and sharing an impressive glass entrance with the Bank’s conference centre, the new facility features a gift shop, an educational space, a bright and open visitor centre and, of course, set of new exhibition galleries.

No simple task, the reimagining of the Bank’s museum involved contributors from most Bank departments both in the roles of oversight and content development.
